Making Clay Beads

We worked with Earth's smallest material, clay. We made clay beads. We got to roll it, pound it and shape it into whatever we wanted for our bead. We even got to make cool patterns in it. We can't wait to paint it, string it and wear it home to show you!

Number-Patterns

We made number patterns adding by twos, threes, fours, fives and so forth. When we had enough ones to trade in for a group of ten, we put our noodles into a cup. Then, we wrote the new number with the amount of tens and ones.

Planning a Fiction Story

Today we got together with partners to bounce ideas off of them for a new fiction story. We had to come up with one character who had a problem. Then, we had to write about that character's journey to the solution. We can't wait to share our stories!

Sentences

We worked on making sentences in different rotations today. We had to make sure each of our sentences had a capital letter at the beginning and punctuation at the end. It was really fun how detailed we could be with our sentences including who, did what, when, and why.

Screening River Rocks

Today in Science, we explored different ways to separate a river rock mixture. At first, we used our hands, but then we used screens. We found out that if a rock was too large to go through a screen, it stayed on top of the screen. We were able to use three different screens. We are so excited to do more separating later in the week.

Complete Sentences

Today we had to sort complete sentences and not complete sentences. This was very tricky! Once we were done with this, we went back through our writing binders to review our writing and correct any sentences that were not sentences.

C and G Sounds

Today we learned about C and G having two different sounds. C makes sounds like K and S. G makes sounds like J and the hard G sound. Then we played concentration reading and matching the beginning sounds of words.

Sharing Non-Fiction Books

We have been working hard at writing non-fiction books in first grade. It is fun to teach other people something we know "all about." Today we shared our books with the first graders in Mrs. Rasmussen's class and they shared their books with us!
